2. National Cancer Control Month
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s estimated that nearly 600,000 Americans died from cancer last year and nearly 1 in 2 men and women will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.
During National Cancer Control Month, the National Cancer Institute reminds us that there are actions we can take to stay healthy:
• Don’t smoke – There’s a strong link between tobacco use and many cancers, so quit smoking to reduce your risk.
• Discuss cancer screening with your doctor – There are screenings for some cancers, including colon cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer.
• Improve your diet – A healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish, beans, eggs, nuts, and fat-free or low-fat milk products may reduce your risk of developing cancer and other diseases.
• Increase your activity – Physical activity is associated with reduced risk of colon, breast, and other cancers. Researchers have found that cancer survivors improved their quality of life by taking 30-minute walks three times a week.

3. Earth Day – April 22
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earth Day comes up just once a year—April 22—but there are things you can do every day to help protect the environment.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers suggestions of simple actions to help protect the environment—many of which may also improve your personal health. Here are just a few examples:
• Help keep water clean by using environmentally friendly cleaning products.
• Take public transit or walk or bike to your destination.
• Buy locally grown food, or grow your own food.
• Cut back on trash and recycle metal, plastics, and paper.
• Bring environmental education to your local schools and community.
Happy Earth Day!

6. Beware of Tax Scams
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This time of year, we all have some dealings with the IRS, but beware of unsolicited communications. The IRS provides guidance on what to do if you receive different types of communications that claim to be from the IRS.
