ProPublica publishes under a [3]Creative Commons license and hosts a

Obfiscator writes with news of the upcoming [0]deployment of
satellite-on-a-chip devices measuring just 3.8cm x 3.8cm x 0.2cm. The
satellites are set to launch with Endeavour on its final flight. "These
three miniature satellites are being launched as a proof-of-concept. As
such, they're being deployed in very low orbit, and should return to
earth fairly quickly in order to avoid becoming dangers for other
satellites. 'They each contain seven solar cells, a microprocessor, an
antenna and amplifier, power storage in capacitors, and switching
circuitry to turn on the microprocessor when the stored energy is enough
to create a single radio-frequency emission.' Due to their size,
atmospheric drag would slow them down without burning them up, allowing
them to study the uppermost atmosphere of wherever they are deployed
next: Venus, Titan, Europe, and Jupiter are all possibilities."

Variety reports that Ubisoft, the game studio behind Assassin's Creed,
the Tom Clancy games and the recent Prince of Persia titles, has launched
Ubisoft Motion Pictures for the purpose of [0]turning its game franchises
into TV and movie franchises. "Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of
Time was brought to the bigscreen by Jerry Bruckheimer, with Jake
Gyllenhaal in the lead. The 2010 pic grossed about $335 million
worldwide. The publisher started expanding its reach in 2007, when it
launched Ubisoft Digital Arts, a computer animation studio, which created
Avatar's ground-breaking 3D vidgame. A year later, it acquired
Montreal-based visual effects house Hybride Technologies."

The Digital Foundry blog took a detailed look at gaming on Apple's
recently released iPad 2. While most reviews of the device focus on the
tablet's size, accessories and software features, this one puts the new
A5 processor through its paces, finding "anything from [0]a 4x to 7x leap
over what was seen in the original version of the tablet." The authors
suggest that it has boosted mobile gaming to a point where Apple could be
preparing for a much bigger entrance into the gaming market. "Either we
are looking at a company looking to consolidate its iron grip on the
mobile games market by combining its existing unparalleled developer
support with state-of-the-art technology, or else iPad 2 represents the
first stages of a plan to expand iOS' reach from mobile phones and MP3
players through to tablets and perhaps in the near future, home games
consoles. ... Technical and hardware challenges aside, there's no doubt
whatsoever that Apple is extremely well-placed to expand its reach in the
games market and launch a new, disruptive assault on the status quo every
bit as effective as its mobile offerings have been. There have been
plenty of creditable attempts at claiming the multi-purpose set-top box
market, but there has been no outright winner. Arguably, Apple has the
brand presence, the games, and the music/video services to actually make
it happen."

An anonymous reader writes with an update to yesterday morning's news
that Sony Online Entertainment's game service [0]was taken offline to
investigate a potential data breach related to the PSN intrusion. SOE has
now said that [1]they too suffered a major theft of user data. "...
personal information from approximately [2]24.6 million SOE accounts may
have been stolen, as well as certain information from an outdated
database from 2007. The information from the outdated database that may
have been stolen includes approximately 12,700 non-US credit or debit
card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes),
and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria,
Germany, Netherlands and Spain."

data, simple algorithm' probabilistic approach to translating voices to

If you think the idea of french kissing someone over the internet with a
robotic tongue is kind of gross, go outside and enjoy your afternoon. For
those of you still sitting here, The University of Electro-Communications
in Tokyo has just what you've been looking for. [0]The Kiss Transmission
Device is a motion-sensing receptacle that records your tongue's
movements and then sends that information to a corresponding machine in
your partner's mouth. From the article: "In addition to real-time
smooching, the Kiss Transmission Device can be programmed to 'remember'
specific rotations. The pre-recorded information can then be accessed by
multiple recipients. According to the inventor, this could be a good way
for celebrities to get closer to their fans." The University gave no word
on the possibility of tentacles in future models.

example, the judge claims that several of the defendants in VPR's case

concludes by saying that his Court is not supporting a 'fishing
expedition' for subscribers' details if there is no evidence that it has
jurisdiction over the defendants."

Many submitters have pointed out that [0]Osama bin Laden's hideout is
getting a lot of reviews on Google Maps. Some of my favorites of the 600+
so far include: "The hotel is obviously doing quite well, as evidenced by
the fact that the cleaning crew is actually helicoptered in each evening,
and in fact they go so far as to destroy any furniture that they feel is
outdated or in need of repair," and "Privacy was great...until being
leaked out on the Playstation Network."
