Job Description:
Seeking an energetic AIX System Administrator. This individual will be part of a team developing and supporting new and existing AIX environments. The candidate will provide system administration, configuration, disaster recovery, trouble shooting, and other support for an AIX environment. The candidate should have a customer service attitude. They will also be expected to mentor other AIX administrators as well as other administrators/developers who work in the AIX environment (security, Websphere, DB2, Java developers, Production Control) so that they understand the policies and procedures that need to be followed to keep the AIX environment secure, consistent and stable. Key skills for this job are: AIX Partitioning, SAN experience (EMC), Disaster Recovery and Scripting.
Specific responsibilities include:
Support the AIX environment through the entire server life cycle - forecasting to acquisitions through decommissioning.
Configure attached storage * both internal SCSI RAID and EMC SAN devices. Create new logical volumes, file systems and directory structures as requested. Support advanced features such as Recover Point for Disaster Recovery. Monitor disk usage alerts and proactively take action to avoid production issues.
Automate routine system administration tasks such as log file cleanup, system and application backups, and user id creation and deletion using UNIX shell scripting. Schedule and verify tasks using cron.
Troubleshoot problems using native AIX tools and utilities to check system status including CPU, memory, and space utilization. Identify root causes (hardware, operating system, application) and take appropriate actions to resolve, working with internal resources and third party vendors to provide complete solutions. This will at times require the coordination of multiple third party vendors and internal resources.
Take part in an On-Call rotation supporting 24x7 critical Production applications. Provide support as required during normal business hours as well as after hours.
Apply AIX operating system / firmware / driver updates and infrastructure application updates (WebSphere, JAVA, EMC PowerPath) to ensure that the environments are running optimally at supported software levels. Install and configure new servers using NIM.
Monitor system resource utilization and adjust profiles, move LPARs, diagnose OS / Application issues or adjust architecture as required to maintain application availability, disaster recovery and performance.
Follow all documented and accepted change control procedures. This will include using the company release management utilities to review and accept other*s planned changes that require AIX support, planned changes, emergency changes and documentation for large planned releases / maintenance weekends.
Develop and implement / support procedures and process to use Dynamic LPAR Mobility to move LPARs from frame to frame to support application availability while frames are down for system maintenance.
Job Skills and Experience:
Our ideal candidate must have:
* Experience supporting critical production infrastructure
* Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocol and networking in general (LAN/WAN)
* Prior experience configuring and managing LPAR partitions using VIO under AIX 5.3/6.1
* Excellent problem-solving, diagnostics and trouble shooting ability
* 3+ years of AIX systems administration including operating system installation and upgrades
* Experience configuring SAN-attached storage (IBM, EMC, HP, Hitachi) under AIX
Knowledge of one or more of the following would also be beneficial:
* Understanding of the IBM pSeries architecture running PowerVM
* Understanding of DB2/UDB
* Understanding of WebSphere
* Experience with any High Availability product * IBM HACMP, Recover Point, Legato AAM, Veritas Cluster Server
* Java, php, Python and perl
* Understanding of MQ Series
* Scripting skills
* Disaster Recovery
* Migrating from P5 to P6 / P7
* P6 / P7 and AIX 6.1 experience with PowerVM Enterprise Edition
o LPAR mobility
o Workload partitions
