Position : Java Developer
Location : Boston,MA
Duration : 6+ Months



Project Description: My client is underway in a migration to take their two most popular applications from Ruby to Java. The two applications combine for over 180,000 users!  The consultants on the project will take the applications and re-code them into Java while adding functionality. These two applications are also being integrated with a new web-hosting environment (Liferay) which will allow for new Java app-lets to be integrated into the website

 

Consultant's Day to day responsibilities

1. Rewrite Ruby application in Java

a. Help support the old application platform

b. Work with legacy problems/ upgrades/ releases

2. Write Java code for new applications/applets

a. 2 major applications

b. Smaller applications used through javalets

3. Port front end code to Java

4. Add new functionality to the application

5. Work very closely with the QA team to fix bugs on the front end and the database

6. Synchronize development phases with middle-tier team by developing specific applications to connect to the client's website through Java-lets (using Liferay)

 

Required Skills:

1. Experience going through a re-platforming project

a. You have to deal with legacy noise and complaints/ conversion issues

2. Proven Java development experience focused on the backend

3. Java development experience in a Spring/Hibernate framework environment

a. Ex. using Hibernate for database mapping

b. Using Spring in early development stages

4. Proven Junit experience

5. Jquery experience
