Job Descreption:
The Oracle DBA is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing infrastructure to provide highly-complex, reliable, and scalable databases to meet the organization's objectives and requirements.
Complete Description:
Familiar with a variety of the database technologies, concepts, methodologies, practices, and procedures and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Able to perform a variety of complicated tasks with minimal or no direct supervision.
They assist in defining system and application architecture and provide vision, problem anticipation, and problem solving ability to organization.
They consult with the client to define needs or issues, conduct research, perform studies and surveys to obtain data, and analyze problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or field of specialization.
In addition to the above, the candidate will:
- Support databases and application technology stacks (forms, reports, SOA, Java, J2EE, etc..) underlying the agency's Oracle eBusiness (financials) and Oracle Merchandizing Operations Management (retail) applications. This currently consists of over 35 database and 45 application servers, plus the planned additional 15 application and 15 database servers.
- Support the databases and application technology stacks underlying the agency's Oracle point-of-service applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve support issues related to database, Oracle application server and the Oracle technology stack
- Recommend and implement database organization strategies to minimize downtime and improve performance
- Manage and monitor the daily disaster recovery (DR) synchronization procedures and monitor the state of DR environments (Oracle DataGuard)
- Apply/migrate changes to development, test and production environments such as data changes, vendor-provided patches, technical/functional configuration changes, and modified reports, interfaces, customization, extensions and workflow objects
- Clone applications and databases between production and test.
- Support weekly applications re-start and scheduled maintenance
- Automate weekly applications re-starts and scheduled maintenance
- Develop operational and management scripts to improve the operations of the Oracle applications
- Monitor databases and Oracle application servers and respond to alerts
- Participate in capacity planning
- Support resolution of database and application performance issues
- Provide recommendations for tuning underperforming applications to increase performance (SQL Tuning, Index Tuning and Memory Tuning)
- Design, develop and manage backup and recovery policies and procedures
- Manage and monitor disk space
- Participate in change control meetings
- Maintain the patch inventory and patch logs
- Participate in problem resolution arising from functional testing activities.
