Hello -The latest Mother Jones cover story by environmental correspondent Julia Whitty was published online this morning. The piece, "Inside the Military's Clean-Energy Revolution" examines how the US Navy is leading the charge towards clean energy, which can in turn impact national security and even climate change. Through investments in biofuels, construction of a more energy-efficient fleet, forward thinking about issues like rising sea levels and a melting Arctic, and commitments to reduce consumption and reliance on foreign oil, the Navy is leading the charge of a vast energy reform effort to "change the way the US military sails, flies, marches, and thinks." Also out today is "14 Weird Ways the US Military is Becoming a Clean, Green Fighting Machine".Julia Whitty will discuss her cover story in person at Climate Desk Live this Wednesday February 27 at 9:30 a.m. in Washington, DC. Joining her are Navy and energy experts Dr. David W. Titley, retired naval officer who led the US Navy's charge towards energy independence, Capt. James C. Goudreau, Director, Navy Energy Coordination Office, Dr. D. James Baker, Director of the Global Carbon Measurement Program of the William J. Clinton Foundation and former Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Climate Desk Live host Chris Mooney. There is still space available.
