Job Title: Network Engineer

Location: Houston,TX

Duration:6months

 

 

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

-          LAN, WAN and VOICE services engineering configuration and implementation

o   Design, plan & implement networking technologies.

o    Design, plan & configure security technologies.

o    Design, plan &configure complex switching environments.

o    Design, plan &configure complex routing environments; both EGP & IGP.

o    Design, plan &configure complex wireless networking.

o    Design, plan & configure complex MPLS & IP based VPN or tunnel environments.

o    Plan & maintain the enterprise environment including IP address & VLAN schemes.

o    Maintain a thorough understanding of the enterprise environment.

o   Establish, operate, support and maintain the networking environment by deploying system configurations per Nexeo standards/NTD's; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing Nexeo standards.

o   Responsible for implementing and maintaining network infrastructure while ensuring that all related documentation is up-to-date.

o   Provide leadership with all service providers for new service turn-ups, changes; follow-up on reported or monitored network dependencies.

o    Work on MACD tickets as assigned.

-          LAN, WAN and VOICE services operations escalations and alternate (NOC)

o   Act as Liaise with all service providers for new service turn-ups and site work; follow-up on reported or monitored network related activities.

o   Documentation of all tasks and outage duration (if applicable) in accordance with Nexeo procedures through the incident management database and CRM platform

o   Serve as escalation point to the teams concerned if not resolved

o    Provide operational coverage as alternate for (shift).

o    Work with Help Desk on resolution of issues (break/fix).

o    Maintain all required incident databases.

-          LAN, WAN and VOICE servicestroubleshooting escalations and alternate (NOC)

o   Assist in troubleshoot the problems reported to the NOC

o   Provide root cause analysis on escalated issues.

o   Assist in routing and switching problem troubleshooting.

o   Provide traffic analysis using netflow or packet captures.

o   Contribute to internal knowledge management system.

-          LAN, WAN and VOICE services daily administration alternate (NOC)

o   Network Optimization and QoS Management

o   Threshold setting for monitoring of Critical Devices

o   Prepare Trend Analysis based on link Usage and Hardware Utilization

o   Review network monitoring results and recommending improvements where applicable.

o   Maximize network performance through proactive scheduling of expected outages and upgrades

o   Secure network systems by establishing & enforcing policies & monitoring access

o   Monitor, review & update security related activities like Password management & ACL uniformity.

-          Development and Departmental Goals

o   Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

o    Accomplishes information systems and organization mission (Nexeo Values) by completing related results as needed.

o    Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.

o    Responsible for all escalations and team gaps in coverage.

o    Act as 2nd for Manager/Architect of team.

o    Any other duties as assigned by management.

 


 

Skills and Experience Required:

Applicant should have at least 10 years experience implementing and maintaining Cisco-based IP networks in addition to 4 years experience working within a NOC environment.

·         Expert understanding of TCP/IP and network fundamentals

·         Expert understanding of network routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF & RIP

·         Experience working with Cisco routers, switches, ASA and wireless products.

  • Experience in applications like Solar Winds, HP Open View, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio)

·         Systems administration (windows) experience a plus

·         Experience working with networks that support VoIP (desired)

·         Experience working with legacy voice systems (desired)

·         Strong English oral and written communication skills

·         The ability to work independently or within a team environment

·         Hands-on experience in handling excited customers (customer service).

·         Able to communicate effectively via phone calls.

  • Run system health check procedures & Analyze the results
  • Hands-on experience in large complex LAN/WAN environments.
  • Able to contribute in designing and planning of new technologies and the implementation.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with inter-network routing architectures.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with network security technologies
  • Comfortable inlarge networks including routing, switching, wireless, and security infrastructure components.
  • Configure &troubleshoot network monitoring & optimization solutions like Cisco WCS, Solar winds, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in the infrastructure management processes; good understanding of process frameworks supporting change management.
  • Proactive monitoring of all remote Networks links and Devices for any alarms
  • Handling escalations promptly to proper teams for problem resolution
  • Document resolved calls for future references and troubleshooting.
  • Expert implementation of LAN methodologies, Routing protocol configurations
  • Expert implementation of LAN using facilities such as advanced spanning tree techniques, Gigabit Ether Channel and trunking techniques, VLAN and IP addressing designs
  • Expert knowledge and experience with inter-network routing architectures, and the underlying network security technologies
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with project and expense management for infrastructure type projects
  • Should be proficient-skilled in Managing Large Networks including Routing, Switching, Nexus, Wireless, Security infrastructure elements, MPLS and various ISP technologies.

Technical Requirements: TCP/IP packet analysis (Wireshark), Telephony (Cisco VoIP, SRST, H323 Gateways, PRI, FXS/FXO, POTS, Fax), Cisco TCP/IP routing (policy based, EIGRP, RIP2, eBGP, redistribution), Cisco Layer2 switching (VTP, VLAN, Trunking, Port-channels, tagging, tunneling), Cisco GRE (including DMVPN), Cisco VRF, IP address management, SNMP, HP NNM, SolarWinds Toolset, Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (general WiFi), Cisco IP SLA, Cisco NAT, Cisco ACL's (traditional & object list based), Cisco CoS/QoS, Platform Experience Required: Cisco ASA, 3750, 3560, 6500, 4500, 2960, 2950, 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900, 870, 880, Cisco AP's, WAN links (Metro Ethernet, Broadband xDSL, T1/E1, T3/E3, G.703), Palo Alto, Windows XP/7, Microsoft Office (Power Point, Visio, Word, Excel, Office365, Sharepoint).
