Title: Big Data Developer on Hadoop

Duration: 6+ months

Location: Cambridge, MA

 

Job Description:

 

The ideal candidate has at least five years experience in the development of commercial software.
- Atleast 5 years experience in Java Development
- Demonstrable skills in Big Data development on Hadoop ecosystem. Mapreduce programming, HBase, Pig, Hive, Mahout, Cloudera
- They are a skilled programmer in at least two modern languages, one of which is Java. Python, Ruby or Scala would be a good second languages, or a functional language like Erlang, LISP, or it's ilk. The main point is that they are not a single language / one-trick pony.
- They are able to communicate very effectively, understand complex ideas quickly, and solve problems creatively.
- They are not dogmatic about how things must be done. They are willing to bend to fit the situation. A bit of hacker mentality as opposed to highly structured methodical.
- Located in or willing to relocate to Cambridge Nice to have:
- Experience with Cassandra
- Experience with Solr
- Agile experience
- Some understanding of Web2.0 / Javascript client-side development.
- Interest in algorithmic programming, state machines, use of heuristic models for algorithm development etc.
- Prior experience with Search and Recommendation is a huge plus.
