I have a contract to perm Database Engineer role. This would be 6 months contract then eventually convert perm so I would need an EAD, GC, or Citizen.

The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for leading data modeling, mapping, ETL, test & deployment efforts for various Business Intelligence (BI) tools & technology solutions. The incumbent will be responsible for creating and maintaining logical and physical data models using established enterprise tools and best practices, including using the Erwin data modeling tool, as well as semantic layer packages using Cognos 8 BI. This individual provides hands-on technical knowledge & leadership working with database developers, DBA's, architects, data quality analysts, and other teams as well as manages client relationships within context of individual role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

§          Oversee and perform Data Warehouse (DW) data modeling, design, and development

§          Oversee and perform Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) design and development

§          Oversee and perform On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) database design and development

§          Lead analysis of relational and OLAP data sources

§          Oversee and perform database tuning and optimization

§          Assist QA team in testing process for projects

§          Establish and maintain relationships with business users and groups

§          Identify and lead the evaluation and implementation of new tools and technologies

§          Lead troubleshooting and resolution of production issues

§          Mentor team members, provide guidance in completion of tasks and following best practices and processes

§          Assess preliminary data volumetric and key estimating parameters for core master data and transaction data; develop sizing estimates for EDW and ERP DW data stores of all types.

§          Work with modelers, developers, specialists and interdependent IT and process teams to define key activities, timelines, resources and critical paths and technology teams

§          Trace back ETL process data elements from stored procedures and functions to document and prepare data mapping and required documentation

§          Participate in data analysis and design, focusing on and lead areas of data migration and data integration architecture

§          Design, Develop and Document logical and physical data models for data warehouse and data marts using Erwin

§          Develop processes around general model management

§          Address issues of data migration (Validation, Clean-up and Mapping), and utilize   data dictionaries

§          Drive consensus agreement on business data definitions and rules

§          Lead the rationalization of data stores and corresponding data origination/flow for master data, transaction data and derived/calculated and summary data

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• BS in Computer Science or related degree or related experience required
• Minimum of four (4) years experience with each of, and detailed knowledge of, relational database, ETL, data warehouse design/data modeling/development/architecture
• Extensive experience with data warehouse architecture, data modeling, design, implementation and concepts (Kimball methodology, star schemas, semantic layer design, etc.)
• Experience in handling the merge of large subject areas of physical models
• Knowledge of the difference between normalized and dimensional models
• Knowledge of best practices through relevant experience across data-related disciplines and technologies, particularly for enterprise-wide data architectures, data management and data warehousing/BI and through experience with large, complex Enterprise Data Warehouse initiatives
• Extensive experience with at least one relevant ETL tool (SQL Integration Services 2005) including architecture and best practices
• Experience with transactional database design and optimization; strong experience with SQL Server 2005, Oracle 10g/11g
• Experience with OLAP database architecture, design and implementation (Analysis Services)
• Knowledge of reporting suites (Cognos preferred): Microsoft (Reporting Services, Report Builder, Excel Services, Performance Point); Cognos 8 BI (Query Studio, Report Studio, Event Studio)
• Experience with SQL Server 2005 (Integration Services and Relational Engine) and/or Oracle 10g/11g (and equivalent ETL).
• Experience with SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, MDX strongly preferred
• Extensive experience with project lifecycle.
• Experience in multi-dimensional data analysis preferred.
• Experience with Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server and/or Visual Source Safe, SQL Management Studio preferred
• Experience with SharePoint (MOSS 2007) a plus
• Knowledge of Java, Active Directory, Oracle eBusiness, SOA, AJAX a plus
