Job Description:

The Database Administrator is responsible for managing and implementing and maintaining all the databases in use in our Client's Department. The candidate works with the heads of all Divisions in the Department to provide database support, creation, integration and maintenance. The candidate works with the application managers to design and implement databases that support the agency mission, goals and objectives.

The database administrator will support the data analysts to produce reports as needed to provide management with the necessary information to ensure programs and policies are effective. The candidate must have mastery level understanding and capability with online data distribution systems, digital networks, and data management operations.

Major Duties:

The candidate will be responsible for providing database administration and implementation services for the agencies applications and information systems. Responsibilities will include assisting agency programs in the migration of data from paper and excel based solutions to an integrated information management environment. Responsibilities will include database design, development and testing, implementation of vendor software, implementation of in-house customizations and reports, translation of user requirements into work order specifications, and create system documentation.

The candidate will ensure database performance as well as plans, develops, and maintains database structure, complete platform upgrades and migrations; maintain data integrity and troubleshoot problems. The candidate will develop disaster recovery plans and ensure the readiness of equipment and facilities at all back data center sites.

The candidate makes or assists in making public presentations when assigned by the Chief Information Officer. Provides training, consultation and technical support services to functional analysts, programmers, remote processing customers, configuration management personnel, etc., on subjects such as data system architecture and capabilities, system generation alternatives, configuration alternatives, data file management, system utility capabilities, standards and procedures, configuration management, performance management, capacity planning.

The candidate develops policies and guidance for data management. Establish implementation and oversight plans to ensure compliance with risk management requirements. The candidate implements standard operating procedures, and periodically tests recovery procedures to make sure that they work.

Required Skills: 

• 4 years experience as a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator
• 4 years Experience with relational database design, SQL, Stored Procedures
• 4 years Experience with Data Warehousing, ETL, Replication
• 4 years Experience with the Ability to install, configure, upgrade, manage, and tune MS SQL Server
• 4 years Experience with the Ability to manage database backup/recovery, disaster planning
• 4 years Experience with the Ability to use LDAP and AD for management of access controls
• 4 years with Competency in MS Office Productivity Tools like Project and Visio
• B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, or related degree or MCDBA
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills     

Highly Desired Skills:

• 4 years of Thorough working knowledge of MS SQL Server in a clustered environment
• 4 years Experience working with API's and integration projects
• 4 years Experience with Informatica and Business Objects
