Unix/Linux Systems Engineer

located in Beverly, MA. 

6+ month contract,

Rate: $50/hr maxx

 

 

Looking for a Server/System's Engineer to design, monitor and maintain critical business and clinical computer servers and services in a 24 hour a day healthcare environment. This person may focus on Open Systems (Unix and VMS) or on Windows NT, 2000/2003 servers, will troubleshoot and resolve complex server problems, will recommend and implement machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities, analyzes results of server monitoring and implements changes to improve performance, processing and utilization as well as proposes, maintains and enforces server polices, practices and security procedures.

 

This person will be dedicated to engineering server and PC hardware, O/S, mid-tier software, deployment technologies and procedures.  The team will be responsible for ensuring infrastructure projects follow appropriate project lifecycle, follow formal testing procedures, and transition responsibilities to support teams with full training.  They will design solutions that ensure system stability and excellent performance.  They are responsible for providing 3rd tier support of hardware/software for desktop and server environments that require 100% uptime.

 

The Qualified candidate will have the following skills:

 

•          3+ years experience with computer systems preferred

•          Experience in healthcare environment is preferred

•          In-depth knowledge/experience with server/desktop/laptop/PDA hardware

•          In-depth knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, mid-tier software, directory services and infrastructure.

o          Windows (NT/W2K/XP/W2K3) and Active Directory

o          Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, AIX)

o          Linux (RedHat)

•          Training or assisting other technical staff with new technologies.

•          Analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal skills is preferred

•          Ability to solve problems quickly and thoroughly, analyze system dumps, decipher error logs, and troubleshoot all layers of software.

•          Develop solutions that increase developer and support group's efficiency.

•          Scripting skills. Languages:

o          Perl

o          SQL

o          Batch jobs

o          Java

o          Unix Shell Scripting (ksh, tcsh, bash)

o          VBScript

o          HTML
