Location : Boston, MA
Duration : 9 months with possible extension
Consultant must be very proficient with Perl, and be able to write new, code, make enhancements to existing code, etc
Position Summary:
The Senior Software Engineer (SE) will be working on a large database migration project that requires organized planning and solid Perl scripting knowledge, as well as back end and database understanding. It is a highly visible project that will be migrating multiple locations into one centralized location, while retiring older error prone technologies with state of the art/high end technologies. The SE will be responsible for developing and delivering critical new infrastructure/application components and troubleshooting and maintaining existing infrastructure/applications. The SE must be skillful in the art of, Perl scripting, object-oriented programming, some experience in PL/SQL scripting, and backend system development.
General Responsibilities:
•Work with architect and senior engineer in scheduling tasks
•Implement Perl scripts under the direction of architect and/or senior engineers
•Assist the QA team in assessing testability of the system
•Provide diagnosis and troubleshooting of system issues
•Participate in design and code reviews
Day-to-day activities:
Work with architect and senior engineer in scheduling tasks
Implement objects, components, and scripts under the direction of architect and/or senior engineers

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree -Computer science, electrical engineering
Specialized training: Perl scripting, and Oracle 10g or higher database
Experience - Length of experience: 10-15 yrs
Type of experience:
•5+ years in software development including recent system design experience
•5+ years using Perl scripting including creating new Perl scripts
•2+ years in back end systems design/development designing new systems OR 3+ years database design and development (Oracle 10g or higher)
•Experience in troubleshooting production applications
Minimum skills and competencies:
•Knowledgeable in the software field's concepts, practices, and procedures
•Good working knowledge of current software development technology trends
•Easy to understand when explaining a problem/idea in person; easy to follow when explaining a problem/idea via email
•Creative problem-solving skills
•Relentless follow-through skills
