Job Title: Computer Operator

Duration: 12 months

There are the possibility of three shifts.

7:00am to 3:30; 8:00am to 5:00pm; 11:00am to 8:00pm

SCOPE OF PROJECT

Background:

The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) has, as a strategic asset for the agency, a Computer Operations system that provides the agency with timely information regarding compliance, tax collections and financial forecasting. Currently, we are short three positions do to untimely departures and the current staff has to work substantial hours above their normal working schedule to keep up with work requirements. This organization will phase out over the next three years as the new COTS tax system is deployed. For that reason, we would like to maintain/replace current staffing levels with contractors.

Summary:

As the size and complexity of the Computer Operations system has grown and is currently a 24x7 operation. The intent of this work order is to supplement the DOR Support and Maintenance functions focusing on the batch processing of mainframe jobs and SCITS job processing with is the responsibility of this organizational team.

Under general supervision, the Computer Operator will be reporting directly to the Computer Operations Manager and TSD division of South Carolina DOR. One main focus of this position is to supplement the current staffing levels in accordance with the needs of the Agency's SCITTS and mainframe operations. The Computer Operator must possess knowledge and experience of a MainFrame computer using CA7 scheduling software and server based computers using Autosys. General duties include managing daily shifts in Computer Operations, monitoring MainFrame job activity, assisting with AutoSys and other related duties in a computer room environment. Effectively research and provide guidance leading to solutions with our strategic direction initiatives, monitoring network infrastructure and security, assisting in supporting disaster recover/failover scenarios. The Computer Operator must be a team player that ensures the stability and integrity of network, data and server services through monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all server and mainframe systems. This individual will be required for work both day and evening shifts as directed. Experience in these areas would be a plus: maintenance and operation of mail inserter and preparation of mailing.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Non-Technical

This includes ownership of the data entered into the Helpdesk system and appropriately updating both client and appropriate employees of status of all issues on a timely basis.
Good customer skills, be attentive to detail, and responsive to customer tickets.
Ability to perform unattended troubleshooting, document said troubleshooting and hand off for other techs.

Technical

Troubleshoot and recommend technical solutions for customer issues related to software setup and configuration.
Develop workaround solutions as appropriate.
Monitor and assess current systems and recommend hardware and software enhancements
Act as technical resource for other IT analysts and business units by resolving complex computer equipment and systems problems
Diagnose and resolve problems related to hardware, software, or operator error, and resolve or repair
Escalate complex problems to other groups, Help Desk, or vendors for resolution or for support under maintenance agreements.; oversee vendor work
Install, configure, test, monitor, and maintain system and application hardware, software, and peripherals for users.
Perform equipment and software upgrades
Lead and execute small projects
Maintain familiarity with current computer and network products
Adhere to corporate information security guidelines and promote information security among coworkers
Qualified candidate will be responsible for performing root cause analysis/resolution.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Schedule, submit and monitor MainFrame jobs using BlueZone and modify JCL.
Perform MainFrame backups and batch cycle updates.
Monitor Autosys software and assist SCITS team with daily deposit.
Maintain production printers, batch reports and report distribution.
Computer Operator will also be responsible for sending and receiving electronic data files.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

At least 2 years experience or Associate's degree in Information Technology
Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook Exchange 2010/2012
Background using document sorter
Printing from MainFrame high speed printer
Receving and sending electronic files

SKILLS PREFERRED:

Preferred
Mainframe experience
Knowledge of PC's
Knowledge of high speed printer
BlueZone software application
CA7 Workload Automation Software (Autosys)
